Challenges

After the kidnapping of a baby from a hospital maternity ward in Trois-Rivières in May 2014, the Ministry of Health of Quebec asked the directors of Quebec hospitals to review the security measures in the department of obstetrics. The hospital decided to enhance security by installing cameras in the maternity ward. Despite this, two journalists who wanted to test these new measures, were able to walk easily on the newborns’ floor. In October 2014, Gatineau Hospital has launched a tender to acquire Hugs electronic bracelets for babies.

Results

Prival was chosen to implement the positioning system (RTLS). The obstetrics department of the Hospital is now completely secure.

Deployed Solutions

Prival has implemented a Stanley Healthcare solution, including chips and bracelets for newborns and mothers. The implementation of this solution requires an attention to detail since it is about the safety of patients. Several high quality criteria must be met to ensure complete security. Several steps are necessary to ensure full network coverage of the space; deployment of wi-fi, site survey, calibration, configuration of tags, door management, etc. Each step must be approved by a certified expert, thus making the hospital stay of young families safe.
